June 16, 2017 - J.R. Klein was honoured by the award of Outstanding Alumni from the Advanced Management and Leadership Program of the Said Business School, University of Oxford. The Award cited Mr Klein's leadership in in development and implementation of initiative to build healthy, functional, and stable communities through development and training of transformational leaders and effective local systems.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Distinguished Alumni will be honored at a luncheon at noon Friday, May 7, at the Dakota Event Center.
This event is rescheduled from last spring and will honor the 2020 NSU Distinguished Alumni: William Deng, James Hess, James Klein, John Lopez and Joe Senger.

Northern State University is a premier residential, regional, liberal arts institution characterized by outstanding instruction, extraordinary community relations and unparalleled co-curricular opportunities. In August 2019 it was named by U.S. News and World Report as one of the best regional undergraduate schools in the Midwest. Mr Klein received an undergraduate degree in History and Social Science from NSU in 1969.

Privileged and honoured to be recognized as a 2020 Distinguished Alumni. It was a delight to walk the walk at the NSU graduation ceremony.

J.R. Klein was honoured to be invited to contribute chapters to a book edited by Lalit Johri, Katherine Corich, and Gay Haskins, published by Routledge. The book, Mastering the Power of You. Empowered by Leader Insights, focuses on the complex and demanding world of the 2020s. It looks at the myriad of difficult decisions leaders face, driven by the Covid19 pandemic, the economic downturn, rising unemployment and inequalities, digital disruption, uncertain political environments, and climate change. In the book leaders from around the world share their experiences in adapting to the changing world and the lessons they have learned. Mr Klein penned the chapter Mastering the Power of Moral Values and co-authored a second chapter, Mastering the Power of Negotiations with his friend and cohort Josef Bruckschlögl.

J.R. Klein was honoured and privileged to be asked to present at the Oxford Leadership and Knowledge Club. OLKC is a forum comprised of alumni interested in having thoughtful conversations on topics that are relevant in the global business environment. Mr Klein was asked to speak on the Spiritual Underpinnings of Effective Leadership. The 11 February 2022 presentation pointed to the nature of the common global narrative, leaders responsibility in an age of distraction and destruction, and the values of integrating basic spiritual discipline into leadership character.

Mr Klein presentation was based on research for his third co-authored book with Mahesh Joshi and Gaurav Rastogi in their Global Business series. Global Business in the Age of Distraction and Destruction schedule for release in June of 2022.
